The Tradition of Herbalism (And Why it’s Missing in Action in the American Diet)

The Tradition of Herbalism (And Why it’s Missing in Action in the American Diet)

I am fascinated by traditions and the culture of food.

Across the globe, for thousands of years, food is connected deeply into how we live, how we take care of ourselves and how we enjoy life.

Not only do I believe respecting and connecting to food and food culture allows for us to add the joy back into food, I also believe it can allow for us to open up a bigger possibility for the way we take care of our health.

Tradition isn’t about chasing the next “it” food, the swaying nutrition research based on the newest study and it’s not about a one fits all approach for your calorie allotment for the day.

One of the reasons I care deeply to showcase intuitive eating and holistic (mind, body, spirit) well-being is because I don’t want you to feel bad if you enjoy health and wellness. I know sometimes in the intuitive eating world it can feel that way.

Instead, I want you to see there are SO many ways to take care of yourself. What you eat and how you move are not the only ways to do this.

The Tradition of Herbalism (And Why it’s Missing in Action in the American Diet)

Here in America we’ve gotten so fixated on the numbers (calories, macronutrient grams, how many minutes you exercise, etc) we’ve completely lost touch with the basics that exist in almost every traditional culture out there. Basics such as:

Sleep well.

Minimize your stress levels.

Move your body (and that doesn’t have to mean going to the gym for a certain allotted time per day).

Have a job and life that has meaning to you.

Connect with people.

Live mindfully.

Eat food, enjoy food and when possible- eat locally and eat seasonally.

Our American diets and lifestyles largely ignore these areas, including the tradition of herbalism.

I shared with you recently about your multivitamin’s new BFF (botanical best friend), and today I wanted to share another reason I love New Chapter’s new Daily Multiherbals. And that’s that New Chapter makes it easy to include this traditional method of self care, herbalism, in your wellness rituals!

New Chapter’s expert herbalists have taken out the confusion of getting the herbs you need with first-of-their-kind daily multiherbals.

Last month, I shared with you about Holistic Health and Energy Boost, this month I want to share a couple other multiherbal options for you.

The Tradition of Herbalism (And Why it’s Missing in Action in the American Diet)

One Daily Multiherbal Sleep Well

Sleep Well is your multiherbal of choice if you are ready to promote longer, most restful sleep you can wake up feeling refreshed*.

Clinical studied tart cherry can significantly increase sleep time and efficiency and even provides naturally occurring melatonin*. Sleep Well  also contains relaxing and soothing herbs that are non-habit forming: passionflower, chamomile and ashwagandha.

I have taken Sleep Well for the past two months and have been blown away!

Truthfully, I’ve never been a good sleeper, and having a baby only intensified this. I started taking Sleep Well right when we decided to sleep train Maddy because I was determined to reclaim my sleep! I have truthfully never slept better. Thank you, thank you, thank you New Chapter.

One Daily Multiherbal Stress Relief

There’s also Stress Relief which helps you and your body to relax, feel calm, balanced and ready for what’s next.

Stress Relief is formulated with Aswagandha (one of my favorite adaptogens to recommend!) to ease physical and mental stress*. It has also been shown to improve well-being and help our bodies respond and react better to stress by lowering cortisol levels*.

Black seed is also included in this multiherbal, for healthy mood, in addition to adaptogens Reishi mushroom and Holy Basil (also known as Tulsi*). This multiherbal is an absolute powerhouse of adaptogens!

You can purchase New Chapter multiherbals on New Chapter’s website, the Vitamin Shoppe, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores.

This blog post is proudly sponsored by New Chapter. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I am incredibly grateful to work with brands I can 100% stand behind, I personally take New Chapter products and recommend them to my clients.
