Sharing My Personal Supplement Routine: 1+ Year in the Postpartum

This blog post is sponsored by New Chapter, as always all thoughts are my own.

I’m officially 15 months  in the postpartum, and even 1+  year out- I am still very intentional about my supplement routine.

Something I’ve realized talking to new mamas is they often don’t realize that nutrient replenishment takes about two years after giving birth. I’ve heard from so many friends, clients and followers that they will take supplements for 2-3 months in the postpartum, but then slowly stop taking them.

Today’s blog post is NOT to give medical advice- but rather to share my own supplement routine and to share why I still take a supplement protocol, even 15+ months out from giving birth.

I think it’s fair to start by saying I am a HUGE fan of supplements.

We use them with most clients at my practice, Nourishing Minds Nutrition, and I’ve always been on some kind of supplement protocol myself.

To me, supplements make it easy to apply a holistic approach to your wellness routines, without having to worry about eating these foods daily. Plus, supplements usually contain much higher dosage and more bioavailable forms of the nutrients.

I’ve continued taking supplements in the postpartum period to help my body replenish nutrient stores and just as importantly- help me feel better and have more energy and FEEL nourished!

Why do I love New Chapter supplements so much?

  • New Chapter products are created with the power of whole foods and herbs. Each New Chapter product is carefully designed and prepared, formulated with proven science and nutrition that actually works.

  • Many of their products are created using well-thought out processes to unlock the nutrients in whole foods. One of these processes is fermentation, which allows the body to better absorb and digest the nutrients within the supplement.

  • New Chapter products are made with consciously chosen and responsibly sourced ingredients. They also offer non-GMO and organic, ensuring we take care of the planet while we take care of ourselves.

  • New Chapter’s philosophy and values are spot on with ours here at VM and Nourishing Women Podcast. This is all about you knowing your body best and using supplements as part of your overall self care journey as a way to live your life to the fullest.

Here is my personal, current, supplement routine:

New Chapter One Daily Postnatal Vitamin

New Chapter’s postnatal vitamin is formulated specifically for new mamas and our needs, to help us replenish nutrient stores from having a baby. This means it contains key nutrients like iodine, vitamin D, as well as fermented B vitamins to support energy needs*.

This postnatal vitamin also has fermented iron which is great for those of us, like myself, in the postpartum phase because this is an important nutrient to replenish after birth as it can affect so much, including your energy and mood.

I started taking New Chapter’s One Daily Postnatal Vitamin daily after I gave birth, continue to take it daily, and plan to continue taking this vitamin until we start trying to conceive again, and once that happens I’ll switch back to New Chapter’s One Daily Prenatal Vitamin.

New Chapter Wholemega Fish Oil

New Chapter’s Wholemega fish oil is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which offer so many benefits when included in the diet. If you are breastfeeding, this supplement offers key Omega-3s EPA and DHA which function to support baby’s brain health and visual development.*  Plus, Wholemega is crafted with only 100% sustainably caught Wild Alaskan Salmon oil.

I personally have been experimenting with more omega-3 fatty acids in my diet and supplement routine to support a healthy inflammation response for my body. I probably remember to take this supplement 3-4 times a week.

New Chapter Holy Basil

This supplement is a go-to to adaptogen for natural stress relief and an increase mental clarity. The Holy Basil plant (also called Tulsi) has been revered for thousands of years and provides the extra boost you need to get through the day. It's been used in Ayurveda traditionally for health benefits including mood, memory and stress.

I started taking holy basil for the first time when I was in the middle of my first ever course launch and needed a boost of mental clarity, stress reduction and energy boost. I’ve really enjoyed taking it and have continued to take it since about mid-April. I like to rotate adaptogens that I take too, and this is just my current adaptogen support of choice.

New Chapter One Daily Multiherbal Sleep Well

I'm obsessed with all of New Chapter’s multiherbal options (there are four to choose from, read more here and here), and this is the multiherbal I am currently taking.

This One Daily Multiherbal Sleep Well contains clinically studied tart cherry, which can significantly increase sleep time and efficiency and even provides naturally occurring melatonin*. Sleep Well  also contains relaxing and soothing herbs that are non-habit forming: passionflower, chamomile and ashwagandha.

I have taken Sleep Well for over three months now and I’m hooked. I still feel that I am recovering from a YEAR of not sleeping (at all), and thankful for any additional support I can get to help me sleep my best!

New Chapter Fermented Vitamin D3

I’ve now decreased to taking this one a few times a week, but was taking it daily when I was breastfeeding to help Maddy meet her vitamin D needs. I tend to only take vitamin D during the winter months but with postpartum/breastfeeding that changed.

I love that New Chapter’s Vitamin D is fermented for better absorption, and also contains fermented turmeric and adaptogenic Reishi mushroom for superfood support.

Probiotic supplement

I have a history of IBS and SIBO,  so finding a well-studied probiotic that supports my symptoms has been a game changer. I’ve been taking a probiotic specific to my needs and symptoms for over 3 years now! I also have specific digestion supplements on hand to take as needed for occasional symptoms I’ll experience.

And there you have it! My current supplement routine, 1+ year in the postpartum period and I’m continuing my supplement regimen to help me feel my best.

Tell me: Are you also in the postpartum period? Are you continuing supplements to help you feel your best?
